Now, that Mos Def, is probably out of the country/continent we can then return to the next big thing, elections.
Herewith is my thoughts, firstly a disclaimer.
if all this was 2001, I am most likely to vote for the ANC.
but, being that we are in this 'political' climate, I have been made to think very hard about what to vote for. So, I will breakdown what I have observed about each of the key political parties.
but, here is a thought:
wouldn't it be fantastic if our vote was based on what and not who?
For this post, I'll focus on the ANC and my thoughts around the party.
another disclaimer:
I think I am still a member of the ANC (card carrying and all), but I've never recieved my card and that was way back in 2005, so be that as it may, my thoughts might be biased.
Firstly,
If Jacob Zuma wasn't the parties president (and presidential candidate) would all the 'Stop Zuma' campaign exist and would you most likely vote ANC?
I think, inherently the ANC as an organisation has most of the countries interest at heart(?) or at least their manifesto/policies are in that light. I think this is where I can agree with COPE about a directly elected president.
Wouldn't it be fantastic if we could vote three ways:
- a politicals party's policies
- a president
- and the parliament?
I mean, some people from across the entire political spectrum are good (or rather percieved so), but because they are going to be outvoted we will have to settle for people who we actually did not vote for, because as things are we are actually only voting for 'group of ideals' to represent us.
(edit)
to rephrase that wouldn't it be dope if we the people decided what is good, which policy, which members, and not actually voted along party lines? that way we can take what we need (from all parties) and leave everything else (we don't need)?
Secondly,
I do not know how to say this part in english, but in SeTswana its: ka nkane. What I am trying to elude to here is that, the ANC knows it will win the elections right? It appears to me that they don't care who heads the party, even if that person it not-so-popular outside of the ANC mainstream supporters.
That second point is important me because, I'd like to think besides the ANC being a political party, it is also a brand. From my understanding brand value is important, and I do not think Jacob Zuma does justice (LOL) to that brand, wouldn't it be easier for the ANC to gain that two thirds majority if they replaced him?
I will post another, part 2, which I will focus on the other parties. I hate lot posts.
Aluta, continua.
