and meanwhile, back at the ranch.

I have been trying not be, oh-so-angry, when I write here. I'll try not to be, but this, this story, got me not so happy.  So if you are used to the usual, happy stuff, you can stop reading.

The Competition Commission has fined Tiger Brands R98.7 million for anti-competitive practice with regard to bread overpricing.  - sabcnews

Here are a few ground rules.

  1. Don't ever, ever tell me about making money.
  2. I don't give a rats ass how much money there is to make
  3. Like dilated peoples - worst comes to worst my people come first.
  4. I'd rather die/starve, than exploit another person
  5. Humanity comes first

Capitalism cannot and I stress this, cannot be it, eventually, it will fail.  Why?

because capitalism, taps into our being, our ego, our inherent behaviour to be selfish, thinking just about our selves and nobody else.

The state of the world is not the state of the world where we can exist in isolation, we are all inherently reliant on each other.

If you think, I am just talking out my arse.  Let me bring you a topic that's on the news everyday.

Global warming.

The biggest polluters are the developed (global capitalist) countries (and now counting China), why are they calling it 'Global'?  You do know trying not to pollute is not very profitable.

Capitalism is not about making money whilst doing good, it's about making as much money as you can, regardless of the consequences.

But, the bread price fixing is in my books the worst thing, ever, ever, ever, ever, because it affects the poor and not only the poor, but those living below that poverty line.

I also read that more and more South Africans are living from less than a dollar a day. Do the maths, how many can afford a loaf of bread today?

Aluta, continua.

capitalism, poverty, socio-ecomonics, south africa

every time you read a story like that - you just can't help but wonder what else they are overcharging us on.

Did you hear the bit about bottled water - and how almost half of it sold is actually tap water. I heart that were the findings in the US.
When I heard that I said to myself, 'well atleast I buy it for the bottle and not the water' (it's true).

It is rather sad what some people are driven by. I'm always amazed at how people just want to be rich nje - like it's the most important thing in the world. Whoever thinks of helping out, however small first?

Anywho...I feel you doggie. It's a cruel world really. Reckon it can be changed? Reckon it wants to be changed?

Perhaps it would be useful to start a non profit organisation - making and giving away bread - put Tiger Brands out of business...
And then the next saga unfolds...

oh by the by.
HAH! The competition commission - great work they are doing ya think?
I want to know what the hell they are going to do with those millions they are demanding from Tiger Brands.
Will they try find every customer that has been duped out of their cents? And reimburse them?
Or do they just keep it. HAH! What a crazy place this is.

Heartwarmer --- I don't know what the Commission is going to do with it, I was hoping they would reverse the price of bread to the cheapest it was before they colluded in price fixing -- as a form of punishment.

I just feel R6.50 for bread is ridiculous, I don't care what market forces are out there -- I mean god dam it -- bread is tax free for a reason.

(calming down)

I do however think the world needs change, and wants to change --- problem is good people, don't always stand up --- may 2008 be different --- I swear to my last byte.

Spark --- a whole lot of ish is over priced, I don't mind luxury goods being expensive, I just mind when the basic needs are -- food, clothes and shelter (cue: dead presidents)
