Crime & Prejudice

Edit:

First things first, this post was written sometime last year, october 12th 2006.  I was reworking it, I don't think I have the time to rework it, no check the spelling or anything like.

I will just publish it as it is, rather as it was, ohh and it's not complete.

So,,,

Ah, isn't crime on the tips of our lips, but sometimes, I find myself trying to ignore it, trying to avoid talking about how bad it is, with the hope it will go away.  It isn't, but it is not a crisis, it is a by product of 1994.

1994.  Is/was a beautiful time, I suppose, the dreams of what 'we' want South Africa to become could begin, we could start imagining what are the possibilities and aim to achieve them.  Some would say we have, hell I think we are better off than we were before, because we are free, what we a free to do is another thing.

I suppose when we were imagining what this new state of freedom was going to be we, were envisioned the idea that crime would increase.  I think we were naive, and most importantly we are still naive.

Before I get into it, let me say this, I don't think crime has increased, I think we now know more about it. Apartheid is to blame. Yes, the national escape goat is to blame for this.  If you don't see why crime can be related to Apartheid, then you don't know this country very well, especially its history.

Remember Rome wasn't built in a day, it took years, generations to put it were it was, and it will take the same for South Africa.  Apartheid affected not only the colour of our skin, but what a specific colour knew, what knowledge they had, what skills they had.  So if you have no education, no skills, no work experience and over the age 20 what the hell do you expect me to do? Sit back and wait, wait for what? wait to die? What did five bop (50c) says, "get rich, or die trying."

Sure, crime does not pay, in the long run, but right now, I can buy food from the R100 I made from a stolen phone I sold.  I will get caught, eventually, but I wont get caught hungry, I will be caught fed, and guess what I am going to be put in a jail where the state is under obligation to make sure, I can eat, sleep, wash and maybe molested, but hey, its a sacrifice I am willing to take, a loss of some rights to achieve something else, hell we have been in the struggle for 50 years plus, I am used to struggling, I am used to have my rights violated, I can live with it, so what is another 20 or so years.

What I am trying to allude to, albeit, I could be failing, is that, crime is consequence of prior actions.  The are a number of these prior actions that lead to the 'increased' crime rate in the country.  I say, 'increased', because it was not to the interest of the previous regime to 'publicise' crime stats of South Africa to the world, and more so, the more crime occurred in the communities of the larger population majority (read: no-white), the better it was for the agenda of the 'System'.  Black on Black violence was tolerated as in "... as long they are killing themselves, the less kaffir's there would be."

One could argue that, this State of affairs encouraged the growth of violence in the black communities, allowed us to use violence to get what we want, which is quite contradictory to how democracy was achieved, so there an inherent 'goodwill' in the country, just a few more things to fix, just a few.

Capitalism.   So, I looked what this word means, capitalism:

n. An economic system in which the means of production and distribution are privately or corporately owned and development is proportionate to the accumulation and reinvestment of profits gained in a free market.

Family.

and choices that were made on your behalf, and more so on the behalf of your parents, the very same people who are supposed to give you an upbringing that should inspire you to achieve more than they have, but if they cannot do that because they too do not know of other choices, but m'Zabalazo (the struggle), what do you expect me to do?
