I love the web, I suppose, that be the reason why I got hooked ever since I got myself onto the first floor of the Wits Concourse and found an unused computer and ran an application called, 'Netscape Navigator' and typed the 7 letters, I've been memorising for 3 three weeks during my 'vocational' training for Eskom at Simmerpan, Germiston.
The seven letters, where, nba.com, and that was way back in the autumn of 1996, ah sweet memories, of finding hiphop lyrics, news and video's, the very first online video I watched was 'Ready or Not - Fugees', ah, I love that song.
I have been obsessed, I am still.
What fascinates be about the web, is that, anybody can be a hero, a legend, and just maybe a millionare, there are no rules, there are not class systems, there are no priviledges, there is just space for you to do what ever you want.
I love how it, makes all (wo)men equal. Its like the traffic department. It don't matter what class you are, what education you got, what BEE deal you are closing, what accolades you have, when you have to go pay your ticket at the traffic department, you have to be in line with everybody else. (actually, a friend of mine said this way back in 2005, Mr. Ruud Godjonson).
What is interesting, is how South African's treat the web, almost as if, it's like television, or radio. There is no, continuity presentor on the web, it don't matter what deal you signed with Sony or 999, all that matters is what you got. Does your web(site) rock, is it dope, is it worth visiting? If it's not, you are not gonna gain that noteriaty you gained in the real world, somebody else will, shine on your shine, period.
Now and then you get people (or qelebrities) trying out the web, but their ish don't work,,, coz in my opinion, after months and months of designing, developing, planning your web(site, blog, portal), the actual project starts on the day you launch it.
The web is like a child, once you have given 'birth' you have to grow it, pay attention to it, day in day out, it will never, run on it's own. Some have argued that they are addicted to 'blogging', actually, I don't think it is, your blog will never be what it is meant to be, if you donnot become addicated to it, you have to, how then would you expect somebody else to come back day in day out when you don't?
Pity, there is lot of good people outthere with very good web ideas, but they seem to not realise that. Irony is that they will stay silent on their blogs for weeks, months, then they try to come back and speak as if they have an audience, tsk, tsk, tsk.
I just think, the web is fantastic, we are all equal, no single web owner is above anybody.
